The Cleveland State men's golfers, after being tied for second with Wright State through 36-holes, finished third at the Horizon League Championships at Green Bay Country Club yesterday. The Vikings posted a final round of 314 while the Raiders tallied a 311 for sole possession of second.
CSU completed the tournament with a score of 309-303-314---926, three strokes behind Wright State and 13 off of tournament winner Detroit.
Individually, four Viking golfers finished in the top ten, all within three strokes of each other. All-Horizon League Golfer Christian Komsa (Tecumseh, Ontario/E.J. Brennen) took top team honors, finishing in a tie for sixth with a score of 76-75-80---231. Sophomore Mike Bognar (Seven Hills, Ohio/Normandy) finished one stroke behind Komsa, carding a 77-77-78---232 for an eighth-place finish. Billy Houle (Joilette, Quebec/Georges Vanier) and P.J. Myers (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) ended up in a tie for ninth, posting scores of 82-74-77---233 and 77-77-79---233, respectively.
Detroit took the title for the second year in a row, carding a 302-307-304---913 for the win, with the help of second- and third-place finishes from Luke LaFave and Johnny Strawser. Wright State finished in second thanks to the play of Jesse Hutchins, who took the individual title with a 67-72-75---214.
Rounding out the field behind CSU was host UW-Green Bay (309-310-314---933), Youngstown State (319-307-325---951), Butler (318-320-322---960) and Loyola (329-330-323---982).
