This past weekend, the Cleveland State men's golfers competed at the FirstEnergy Intercollegiate, hosted by Akron University at Firestone Country Club. The Vikings shot a 307-314-306---927 on the par 72 North Course to earn a 17th-place finish.
Christian Komsa (Tecumseh, Ontario/E.J. Brennen) took top team honors with a 58-place tie and a 75-78-77---230 score. Billy Houle (Joilette, Quebec/Georges Vanier) earned a tie for 66th with a 78-76-78---232 while Mike Bognar (Seven Hills, Ohio/Normandy) and Lyle Wilkens (Bloemfontein, South Africa/Grey College) picked up 76th-place ties with scores of 76-79-80---235 and 78-81-76---235, respectively.
The University of Toledo edged out Penn State in a one-hole playoff to take first-place with a 284-295-290---869. Eric Phipps of Miami (O.) shot a five-under par score of 71-65-75---211 to earn top honors by one stroke over Indiana's Jeff Overton.
The Vikings host the eighth annual Cleveland State Golf Invitational today and tomorrow. The 54-hole stroke play tournament will be held at Legend Lake Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio, along with the Cleveland State Women's Golf Invitational.
