FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Cleveland State placed fourth at the IPFW Fall Classic after shooting a final round seven-over-par 291 on the par-71, 6,582-yard Deer Track Golf Course on Tuesday morning.

CSU entered Tuesday's final round tied for third place with Youngstown State after shooting school-record rounds of 277-277 on Monday morning and afternoon. However, the Vikings could not get anything going during the final 18 holes on Tuesday and fell to fourth place.

Detroit won the event with a three-round total of 832 and was followed by Youngstown State (835) and Loyola (841) in the nine team field. CSU finished four shots behind the Ramblers at 845.

"The conditions were a little more difficult today with the wind and pin placements, but we just didn't play well," assistant coach Nathan Miklos said. "We were not able to capitalize at the beginning of the round and get off to a good start and then made a few mistakes on the back nine that cost us a few strokes.

"It was not a good way to finish and we need to find a way to play better in the final round of tournaments," Miklos continued.

Junior Jake Scott and sophomore Kyle Cobb led the Vikings as they tied for sixth place at 208. Scott carded a career-low 67 in Monday's opening round before finishing with a 69 and 72, while Cobb fired rounds of 70-68-70. His second round 68 was a career-low.

The Viking duo finished 12 shots behind Ross Beal of Youngstown State who concluded play at 196 with round of 65-68-63. He bested Thomas Greene of Loyola by nine strokes (70-63-72; 205).

"Jake and Kyle played consistent golf for us in all three rounds," Miklos said. "But we need to start putting together four solid scoring rounds."

CSU will conclude its fall season at the Belmont Fall Shootout on Oct. 15-16 in Nashville, Tenn.
