BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The final round of the John Piper Invitational was canceled due to heavy rains in the area. Play began as scheduled this morning at the par-72, 7,064-yard Stone Ridge G.C., but continuous rain eventually made the course unplayable after the players got through approximately eight holes.

The event was cut short to 36 holes with the Vikings placing 10th of 12 teams after the first two rounds were completed on Monday. CSU shot an opening round 297 and followed that with a 307 in the afternoon round.

"We got off to a great start and were right in the hunt after the first round," head coach Steve Weir said. "But we were limited in the second round with just four players and couldn't post another low number and watched a bunch of teams pass us. We have our work cut out for us tomorrow if we want to improve our standing."

CSU has three golfers in the top-10, including freshman Andrew Bailey who is tied for third place after rounds of 72-73 (145).

"Andrew played really well today," Weir said.

Senior Kent Monas and sophomore Michael Klaric are both tied for 10th place. Monas carded rounds of 72-76, while Klaric fired a pair of 74's (148).

The Vikings were forced to play with just four players in the second round after senior Pat Elber had to withdraw. Elber was playing in his first tournament in over a year after injuring his wrist in the opening tournament of the 2009 fall season.

Elber shot a 79 in the first round.

"It was unfortunate not to have Pat finish today out," Weir said.

The final round of the event is slated for Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
