BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Michael Klaric shot a final round 71 and tied for fourth place at the John Piper Invitational that concluded on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,044-yard Stone Ridge G.C.
CSU shot a final round 294 and finished third in the 10 team field. Bowling Green won the team title at 892, defeating Loyola in a playoff.
"We put ourselves in a position to come out and win the tournament with two good rounds yesterday, but we couldn't get the job done," head coach Steve Weir said. "We just made too many mistakes by guys who can't make them. But we'll move forward and figure some things out and get it squared away for when we host our tournament in about 10 days."
Klaric followed yesterday's rounds of 78 and 71 with another 71 today to finish with a 54 hole total of 220, good to tie for fourth place.
Alex Cusumano of Loyola earned medalist honors at 216 (76-71-69).
"I thought Michael played really well during the last two rounds. He didn't get off to a great start in the first round, but stayed mentally tough and hit some key shots to help him to a top-five finish."
Jon Riemer (75-74-76) and Brendan Byrne (79-74-72) tied for 16th place in the individual standings at 225, while Andrew Bailey tied for 18th place at 226 (78-73-75).
CSU is back in action when the Vikings host the Telich Sun Life Financial/CSU Invitational on Oct. 3-4 and Canterbury G.C. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday (Oct. 3) and the final 18 holes on Tuesday (Oct. 4).
