Cleveland State Men’s Golf Ninth, Kaye Tied for 10th after Day One at Joe Feaganes Marshall Invite

Hutington, WV-The Cleveland State men's golf team turned in a 1-over par team score through 36 holes at the season-opening Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational at Guyan Golf and Country Club. The Vikings finished with a 1-over 285 in the opening round and improved by a shot, posting an even par 284 in round two for a 569 team total. Belmont leads the tournament after shooting matching scores of 12-under par in each round for a 24-under par total.

Andrew Kaye led the way for the Vikings individually, posting a 4-under total through two rounds, landing him in a tie for 10th place. Kaye carded a 3-under 68 in the morning round and followed it up with a 1-under 70 to post 4-under. Belmont's Jack Schoenberger leads the field at 10-under through 36.holes.

Kaye's opening round 68 included two eagles, including a hole-out on the par-4 fifth hole. His second eagle came on the back nine on the 11th hole, and he later added two birdies to close his round with a 3-under 32 on the back side. Kaye is one of three players in the field with multiple eagles through two rounds. He posted matching scores of 35 on both nines in his second round for a 70.

Brody Simms is tied for 30th after finishing at even par through two rounds. Simms posted a 1-under 70 in the opening round and followed up with a 1-over 72 in round two. Simms finished the day with eight total birdies between the two rounds, three of which came on the front nine of his second round where he carded a 3-under 33. He was bogey-free on the front side in both rounds on Monday.

Mason Frazier was close behind finishing at 1-over in a tie for 35th. Frazier opened with a 2-over 73 and improved by three shots in his second round, finishing at 1-under 70. Frazier closed his second round with a 2-under 33 on the back nine, including a stretch of three birdies in four holes on holes 14-17.

Three freshmen made their collegiate debuts in the opening rounds on Monday. Dillon Pendergast is tied for 55th after posting rounds of 75-72 for a 5-over par total. Ben Scheeff is tied for 62nd at 7-over after two rounds. Scheeff finished with a 74 in the opening round and closed with a 75 in round two. Dominik Cosic, playing as an individual, shot 76-77 for an 11-over par total.
