Hanus Tied for Fourth, Cleveland State Men’s Golf in Fourth Place after Day One of Horizon League Championship

Howey in the Hills, FL-Jack Hanus carded an even par 72 on Sunday to sit tied for fourth place following the conclusion of the opening round of the Horizon League Championship Tournament at Mission Inn Resort. The Vikings are in fourth place after round one with a 13-over par team total of 301. Purdue Fort Wayne leads the field with a 2-over par team score after the first 18 holes. 

Hanus opened with a birdie on the par-5 first hole but carded two double bogeys to sit at 3-over through his opening nine. He caught fire on the back nine with a bogey-free 3-under 34. He carded back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16 and finished with two pars to post an even par total. Hanus is three back of the lead, shared by Purdue Fort Wayne's Kasey Lilly and Oakland's Yaro Illenko at 3-under par. 

Hanus made four birdies in the round which was tied for the second most in the field. Two of those four came on the par-5's at Misson Inn's El Campeon course, as he finished 2-under on those holes for the round. 

Brody Simms posted a 2-over 74 to finish tied for 10th place through the opening round. Simms had two birdies in a three-hole stretch on holes 14 through 16 to finish at 2-over. 

Gunnar McCollins is tied for 20th at 4-over par after an opening round 76. McCollins birdied two of his first three holes to get the Vikings off to a good start early in the morning wave. 

Andrew Kaye carded a 7-over round of 79 to sit in a tie for 35th place. David Laib is tied for 41st after a 9-over round of 81. 

Cleveland State carded 11 birdies as a team in round one, which is tied for the second most in the ten-team field.
