Cleveland State Men’s Golf Fifth after Day One at Butler Spring Invitational

Indianapolis, IN-The Cleveland State men's golf team sits in fifth place after 36 holes at the Bulter Spring Invitational. The Vikings are four over par as a team after posting the lowest round of the spring season in the second round, finishing two under. 

Andrew Kaye, Jack Hanus and David Laib each shot one-under 69 in the second round. Ball State leads the overall team race at 14-under par through 36 holes. 

Hanus is in a tie for 12th individually at even par through two rounds. After shooting one-over 71 in the first round, he came back with three birdies against two bogeys in the second 18 to finish in red figures. 

Laib is one shot back in a tie for 17th at one over par. He tied for the low nine-hole score of the second round for CSU, finishing with a front nine 33. He carded two birdies to go along with seven pars, finishing bogey free on the front side.

Kaye, Brody Simms and Gunnar McCollins are all tied for 31st at 3-over. Kaye started with an even par round of 35 on the front nine and closed with a one-under 34 that included back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14. 

McCollins finished at one-over 71 and Simms carded a two-over 72 in the second round. Hanus had the low round of the morning session finishing with a one-over 71.   

Alex Anderson is tied for 25th through two rounds after finishing at two over par. Anderson shot matching rounds of 71 in the first 36 holes. In addition, Mason Frazier is tied for 63rd at 10-over par and Jonny Filler is 87th at 20-over par, both playing as individuals. 

The Vikings will look to close the tournament strong as the third and final round will take place tomorrow morning, scheduled for a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Follow along on Golfstat for live results.
