Cleveland State Men’s Golf Set To Host Tom Tontimonia Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's golf team will return to action this week, hosting the fourth annual Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Monday, October 3 and Tuesday, October 4. 

The 54-hole tournament will take place at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio. The field will play 36 holes with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start on Monday, before playing the final 18 holes with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. 

Cleveland State will welcome 13 teams for the 2022 edition of the Tom Tontimonia Invitational; Oakland, Dayton, Bowling Green, Purdue Fort Wayne, Youngstown State, Robert Morris, Green Bay, Northern Kentucky, IUPUI, Loyola (Chicago), Butler, St. Francis (PA), Eastern Illinois. 

This will mark the fourth of five tournaments for the Vikings this fall, as they will close out their schedule at the Dayton Flyer Invitational later this month. 

Cleveland State's lineup for the Tom Tontimonia Invitational will be Jack Hanus, Andrew Kaye, Brody Simms, David Laib, and Alex Anderson, while Gunnar McCollins, Jonny Filler and Mason Frazier will compete as individuals. 

2022-23 SEASON STATISTICS

Throughout the first three tournaments, the Vikings have notched four top-20 individual finishes, including a T-13 finish from Andrew Kaye at the Valpo Fall Invitational last time out. 

Entering Monday's first round, Kaye leads the team with a 73.0 scoring average, while Jack Hanus owns a 73.8 scoring average on the year. 

Tom Tontimonia was an athletic administrator for 38 years at Cleveland State, and held longtime sport oversight responsibilities for the Viking golf programs. He retired from the University in 2018, when head coach Steve Weir and the men's golf team elected to rename its annual fall tournament in order to recognize his passionate support for the sport at Cleveland State.
