Top-20 Finishes From Robbins and McCollins Lead Vikes to 5th Place At Tom Tontimonia Invitational

WESTLAKE, Ohio – Zach Robbins posted two identical rounds of 72 to lead Cleveland State to a strong showing at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational at the Lakewood Country Club. Although the tournament typically consists of three rounds, rain shortened competition to two rounds per competitor.

TOURNAMENT RECAP
Robbins shot one-over-par scores of 72 on both days of the tournament and earned a 13th place finish in the medalist chase. This marks the senior's first top-20 finish of the season.

Junior Gunnar McCollins earned his first-ever top-20 finish after turning in rounds of 73 and 72. McCollins' two-day total of 145 tied him in 20th place in the standings, marking the first time that the Vikings have landed two top-20 finishers in an event this season.

Robbins and McCollins helped lead Cleveland State to a day two score of 287 and a tournament total of 580, resulting in a 5th place finish for the team. Oakland was the team winner with a score of 570, and Purdue Fort Wayne's Kasey Lilly captured medalist honors.

Junior Jonny Filler recorded a team-best round of 68 in day two of the tournament and rose to a 26th place tie with a two-day score of 78-68. Filler gained 38 spots in the standings on day two, the most drastic rise in the tournament.

Seniors Jules Blakely and Zak Supelak posted identical scores of 74-75 to finish in a tie for 45th.

The best-performing individual for Cleveland State was Jack Hanus, who posted rounds of 74 and 72 and eatned 26th place. Sophomore Mason Frazier finished in a tie for 62nd place after shooting 75-78.

Senior David Laib fired a 76 in day two to earn 65th place with a total score of 154. Rounding out the individuals, sophomore Andrew Kaye finished the tournament in 73rd with rounds of 82-77. 

The Vikings will conclude their fall season at the Flyer Invitational in Dayton on Oct. 18-19.
