Cleveland State Men’s Golf Finishes 11th in River Run Collegiate

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Zach Robbins turned in a round of 75 in the final 18 holes to earn 26th place at the River Run Collegiate Event on Tuesday at the River Run Country Club.

Robbins rebounded in day two to add a round of 75 to his day one rounds of 73 and 77. The senior earned a tournament total of 225.

Jules Blakely also climbed in the standings on day two, earning 38th among individuals and recording rounds of 77-78-74 for a final score of 229.

Cleveland State finished 11th in the team scoring with a total of 910. The Green and White opened tournament play with day-one rounds of 300 and 301 and concluded the tournament with a day-two total of 309 over the final 18 holes.

Charlotte posted a tournament-best team score of 280 on day two to win the tournament with a two-day score of 849. Matt Sharpstene of Charlotte earned medalist honors with rounds of 67-71-69 for a tournament total of 207. Four out of the top five tournament performances were turned in by Charlotte competitors.

Junior Gunnar McCollins scored 82 in his final 18 holes, giving him a three-round tally of 75-73-82. With an aggregate score of 230, McCollins finished tied for 43rd in the medalist chase.

Junior Jonny Filler and senior Zak Supelak posted respective two-day scores of 77-73-81 and 75-80-79. Filler ended the tournament tied in 56th with 231 strokes while Supelak earned 62nd place with a total of 234.

The Vikings will next compete at their annual hosted event, the Tom Tontimonia Invitational, on Oct. 4-5.
