Cleveland State Golf Ends Day Two of #HLGOLF Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana - The Cleveland State golf program wrapped up their second day at the 2021 #HLGOLF Championships on Monday evening. The men jumped two spots on the leaderboard to finish Monday's round in sole posession of third place, while the women remained in the fifth spot.

"I was extremely proud of our group today. They attacked the golf course like they had something to prove. They played well at the beginning and fed off of each other's energy. We battled through some adversity mid round to keep the round going. The last three holes are extremely difficult, but we will find a way to play them much better tomorrow. The Vikings saw a nine-stroke improvement from Sunday to Monday, which resulted in moving up the leaderboard from fifth place to third. Cleveland State's round of 296 was the third-best round of the day, only two stroke behind Oakland's 294.

Zak Supelak continued his dominance on the course, as the senior sits in sole posession of second place, pacing the Vikes with -2 after 36 holes (73-69, 142). The Copley, Ohio, native will enter the final round only two strokes behind Thomas Giroux of Oakland.

Jules Blakely notched a three-stroke improvement from Sunday to Monday, resulting in moving up to T10 on the leaderboard. Blakely, who's shooting +5 (76-73, 149), recorded a team-best five birdies on the day, including three in the front nine holes where the senior shot -2.

Zach Robbins saw significant improvement in the second round of the 2021 #HLGOLF Championships, moving up 14 spots on the leaderboard to T28. Robbins, who shot 83 on Sunday, registered an 11-stroke improvement on Monday, shooting even on the day. After 36 holes, the senior is +11 (83-72, 155). 

Jack Hanus who's sitting T38 is shooting +15 (77-82, 159) and Jonny Filler who holds the 42nd overall spot is shooting +17 (79-82, 161) to round out the Vikings leaderboard.

We have a final round to play tomorrow and we're going to dial up a game plan and give everything we have for the final round. The women of the Green and White remained in the fifth spot on the leaderboard after Monday's 18 holes. Cleveland State shot 315 on Monday, only three strokes more than its opening round. The Vikings find themselves tied with Oakland, while sitting four stroke better than Detroit Mercy.

After 36 holes of play, the Vikes still have three players remain in the top 15: Kaylee Neumeister, Madison Butler and Meg Rossouw

Neumeister is leading the team after two rounds, sitting in sixth place shooting six-over-par (74-76, 150). After a +3 front nine, the senior saw a two-stroke improvement in the back half of the course, only shooting one-over-par. Neumeister tallied a team-high four birdies on the day, which included birdies in back-to-back holes (13 and 14).

Madison Butler jumped six spots on the leaderboard from the first to the second round, finishing the day T9. Butler, who is shooting +9 (77-76, 153) after 32 holes, recorded a birdie on the 14th hole on Monday.

Meg Rossouw finished Monday's round of golf T12, shooting +6 on the day. Heading into the final day of the 2021 #HLGOLF Championships, Rossouw finds herself trailing fellow Viking Madison Butler by only one stroke, as the senior is +10 after 36 holes (77-78, 155).

Rounding out the leaderboard for Cleveland State are Ashley and Lexi Knight. Ashley Knight ended the day T41 shooting +26 overall (85-85, 170), while sister Lexi is in sole posession of the 44th spot, recording +32 aftre two days on the links (86-90, 176).
