Cleveland State Vikings Set to Compete at Horizon League Championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State Vikings men's and women's golf teams are set to head to Indiana to compete in the 2021 Horizon League Championships beginning on Sunday, April 25. The men's team is looking to capture their first title since 2018, while the women are seeking their first championship since 2017.

HORIZON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL | MEN'S LIVE SCORING | WOMEN'S LIVE SCORING

Unlike in years past, this season's championship will take place at the Brick Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. The men will compete on the Kampen course, while the women will compete on the Ackerman-Allen course. The championship will span from Sunday, April 25 to Tuesday, April 27.

Attendance at the 2021 Horizon League Golf Championships will be open to family and friends.

Head Coach Steve Weir previews the men's championship

The Vikings are seeded in the middle of the pack with an 8:45 a.m. tee time on Sunday and an 8:30 a.m. tee time on Monday. Cleveland State enters the 2021 #HLGOLF Championships with a Golf Stat Division Ranking of 237.

The Green and White enter the 2021 Horizon League Golf Championships fresh off of a 10th place finish at the Wright State Invitational on Monday, April 19. Zak Supelak leads the Vikings in Golf Stat rankings averaging a team-best 73.2 score average. He had his best round of his career in the second round of the Dayton Flyers Intercollegiate on Monday, April 12, shooting 63. His round of 63 tied a program record for lowest round. The junior tied current head coach Steve Weir's round of 63 set back in 2006 at the Belmont Intercollegiate.

THE WOMEN


Head Coach Taylor Riggs previews the women's championship

The Cleveland State women's program enter the 2021 Horizon League Championships as the seventh seed with a Golf Stat ranking of 201. With that, the Green and White will tee off on Sunday and Monday at 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., respectively.

The Vikings are led this year by senior Kaylee Neumeister who is averaging a team-leading stroke average of 76.3. Neumeister, who missed the entire 2019-20 season due to an internship, has posted top 20 finishes in every tournament thus far, including two in the top 15.Madison Butler is right behind Neumeister with a stroke average of 76.5 and one top 20 finish. 

Final round tee times, for both the men and women, will be based on the results of the first two rounds.
