Vikes Finish Day One of Wright State Invitational

SPRINGSBORO, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's golf team finished day one of the Wright State Invitational on Sunday evening, as the Vikes sit in 10th place overall, shooting 40-over-par (305-303, 608). The Green and White have a two-stroke lead over Butler, Loyola and IUPUI who are all tied for 11th at +42.

DAY ONE
Cleveland State improved one spot on the leaderboard from the first round to the second after an hour delay in the morning due to frost. The Vikings currently sit two strokes behind Northern Kentucky for the ninth spot in the standings. Cleveland State will play one more round of 18 holes on Monday to conclude the invitational.

Jonny Filler is having a strong outing for Cleveland State, as he leads the Vikes on the player board sitting T13 at +6 (74-74, 148). The sophomore from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was the most consistent Viking, as he finished both rounds shooting 74 (+3).

Jules Blakely finished 13 spots behind Filler tied for 26th overall. The senior shot +9 on the day (79-72, 151) with an impressive second round. After shooting eight-over-par on his first 18 holes of the day, Blakely strung together a +1 effort in the second round, shooting even through the first nine holes.

Jack Hanus ended his first day of the Wright State Invitational T53 shooting 14-over (74-82, 156), while reigning Horizon League Men's Golfer of the Week Zak Supelak finished +15 sitting tied for 58th overall (78-79, 157).

Zach Robbins, much like fellow senior Jules Blakely, saw an improvement from the first to the second round of the Wright State Invitational, as he recored rounds of 81-78 (159, +17). Robbins, who finished day one tied for 70th, had his best stretch of nine holes on the front nine in round two, as the Grand Rapids, Michigan, native went even through the opening half.

The Vikings will wrap up their time at the Wright State Invitational on Tuesday playing 18 holes. Following Tuesday's round, the Green and White will gear up for the 2021 #HLGOLF Championship beginning on Sunday, April 25.
