WESTLAKE, Ohio - Sophomore Zach Robbins posted his second consecutive round in the 60's to tie for second place and help the Cleveland State University men's golf team to a third-place finish as it hosted the final round of the Tom Tontimonia Invitational Tuesday at a warm and sunny Lakewood Country Club.
CSU shot +12 (296) in the final round on the par-71, 7,018-yard course. That left the Vikings with a 54-hole total of +22 (874). Cleveland State was just five shots out of first place and was the second-highest finishing squad of the seven Horizon League teams competing.
Robbins posted another top-notch round to close out the event, firing a -2 (69). He repeatedly bounced back Tuesday as he made at least one birdie within the following two holes after each of his four bogeys. He made four birdies, three bogeys and two pars on the front nine to sit at -1. After bogeying 10, Robbins made two birdies and six pars to close out his round. That left him at -3 (210) for the tournament and in a tie for runner-up position.
Sophomore Jules Blakely avoided big numbers Tuesday en route to a +4 (75). He made six bogeys, two birdies and 10 pars on the round to finish the event at +14 (227).
Sophomore Zak Supelak and senior Anton Krecic both posted +5 (76) Tuesday.
Supelak finished the tournament at +3 (216) after two under-par rounds Monday. He tied for seventh overall. Krecic ended the event at +9 (222), with the three-day total representing a season low.
Freshman Miles DeMuesy used 82 shots Tuesday and finished the tournament with a cumulative total of 237.
Freshman Jack Hanus, playing as an individual, used two birdies, five bogeys and 11 pars to tally +3 (74) Tuesday. He finished at +9 (222) and did not make a double bogey (or worse) in his final 36 holes.
Both Robbins and Supelak posted their first collegiate top-10's with their performances this week. The duo also both reset their career-low 54-hole cumulative totals.
Robbins is the first Viking to shoot back-to-back rounds in the 60's this season. He did not make a double bogey (or worse) all tournament.
Cleveland State will close the fall portion of its season Oct. 15-16 at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
