Vikings Fire Final-Round 291 at Firestone

AKRON, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's golf team saved its best for last, as the Vikings fired a final-round 291 at the Firestone Invitational Tuesday.

CSU shaved 11 strokes off their team score from the second round in shooting +3 as a team Tuesday. The Vikings remained in 15th place in the event with a final score of +30 (894) and were 19 strokes clear of the only other Horizon League team in the event.

The tournament was played at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club North Course.

Freshman Miles DeMeusy had the best round of his young collegiate career by shooting -2 (70) Tuesday. It was the first round of par or better in his collegiate career.

Teeing off on the 10th, DeMeusy used a birdie on the par-4 14th to counterbalance a single bogey and play his opening nine in even par. He then birdied the par-4 third, the par-4 fourth and the par-5 fifth consecutively to reach -3 for his round. A bogey on the sixth left him at -2 where he finished. DeMeusy finished the event with 232 strokes.

Sophomores Jules Blakely and Zak Supelak both contributed +1 (73) in the final round. Blakely used four birdies, five bogeys and nine pars to finish the event with 222 strokes. Supelak played his opening nine in even par and reached -1 for the day but a tough finish left him with a 73. Supelak was CSU's top finisher in the event as his rounds of 74-71-73 left him with 218 strokes, a new career low.

Senior Anton Krecic was +1 through 13 holes Tuesday but a pair of bogeys at the end of his round left him at +3 (75) for the day. Krecic was the third-lowest Viking in the event with a cumulative score of 224.

Sophomore Zach Robbins shot +6 (78) Tuesday and finished the event with 238 strokes.

Cleveland State will host the Tom Tontimonia Invitational at Lakewood CC next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 8-9.
