Cleveland State Opens Play at Firestone

RESULTS

AKRON, Ohio - The Cleveland State University men's golf team opened play in the Firestone Invitational Monday with rounds of 301-302.

CSU is in 15th place after the opening two rounds at +27 (603). The Vikings sit five shots ahead of fellow Horizon League member Youngstown State. The event is being played at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club North Course.

Sophomore Zak Supelak was the top Viking after Monday's 36 holes. Supelak shot +2 (74) in the opening round, which saw him birdie the par-4 10th and par-3 11th consecutively. After making par on the opening hole of his second round, Supelak dropped in an eagle on the par-5 18th. He would close his round strong as well, making birdies on two of his final three holes. That left him at -1 (71), which put him at +1 (145) for the tournament.

Senior Anton Krecic and sophomore Jules Blakely posted rounds that were mirror images of one another. Krecic made four birdies in his opening round to shoot +1 (73) before coming back with +4 (76) in the second round. Blakely opened with +4 (76) before using three consecutive birdies in the back nine of his second round to finish at +1 (73). Both players sit at +5 (149) for the event.

Sophomore Zach Robbins shot 78-82 (160) Monday while freshman Miles DeMeusy tallied 80-82 (162).

Supelak, who did not make a double bogey (or worse) in either round, notched his second round of par or better this season with his second 18 holes Monday.

The final 18 holes of the tournament will be played Tuesday. CSU will tee off on the 10th hole with the first Viking going off at 9:15 a.m.
