Basketball Coaches To Instruct In June

CLEVELAND - The third week of June will be a busy time for Cleveland State's basketball coaches. The women's staff will hold an individual camp from June 16-19 while the men will host a free clinic on the 17th followed by the sold-out Mike Garland Viking Shootout on the 20th & 21st.

Women's Head Coach Kate Peterson and her staff will offer a camp featuring both half (9:00 a.m.-Noon) and full (9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) day rates for girls in grades 4-12 in the CSU Convocation Center. On Monday and Tuesday, campers will be instructed on proper shooting techniques and fundamental skills, before being divided into groups based on position for the sessions on Wednesday and Thursday. The cost is $100 for half day and $200 for full day. For more information call (216) 687-5120. Peterson and assistants Al Brown and Kyle Rechlicz have 39 years of college coaching experience, including 24 seasons in the Big Ten, and three NCAA national championships.

Men's Head Coach Mike Garland and his staff will host a free clinic for boys in grades 6-12 on June 17 in Woodling Gymnasium from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Campers will learn fundamental skills such as shooting technique, dribbling and passing. In addition, the already sold-out Mike Garland Viking Shootout will take place on June 20-21 on the CSU campus. For more information, call (216) 687-4817. Before arriving at CSU, Garland was a member of Tom Izzo's staff at Michigan State for the past seven seasons, including 2000 when the Spartans began their national title run in the CSU Convocation Center.
