CLEVELAND - After performing at an exceptional level in both the classroom and competition, five Cleveland State athletes have been named to the 2005-06 Winter Academic All-Horizon League Teams. Men's swimmers Bjorn Schantz, Daniel Thomasson and Adam Wroblewski, as well as women's swimmer Kirsty McKechnie and men's basketball player Cory Rojeck, were honored.

Schantz, a junior marketing and international business major carrying a 3.88 GPA, is a two-time member of Cleveland State's Athletic Academic Excellence Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.00 or higher. He was named both the Horizon League's Male Swim Athlete of the Year and the Men's Swimmer of the Meet at the Horizon League Championship after winning the 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle in helping the Vikings to their third league championship. He is also the CSU record holder in the 200 and the 500 freestyle.

Thomasson, a senior international relations major with a 3.69 GPA, is a four-time member of the university's Athletic Academic Excellence Award and was honored with the Provost's Award for making the Dean's List in each semester at CSU. He was one of the Vikings' top distance swimmers during the season, claiming the 200 freestyle title in the league championships.

A senior mechanical engineering major with a 3.84 GPA, Wroblewski was honored with the Athletic Academic Excellence Award all four years at CSU and earned the Provost's Award for making the Dean's List in every semester. He was a vital member of the Viking swim team as a sprinter, finishing in the top 10 in three events at the Horizon League Championships.

McKechnie, a senior finance and international business major with a 3.54 GPA, is three-time member of the Athletic Academic Excellence Award and is a recipient of the Provost's Award. She was the Vikings' top distance swimmer, recording season-best times in the 200, 500 and 1,000 freestyles and 400 IM while placing in the top 10 in two events at the league championships.

Rojeck, a senior social studies major with a 3.4 GPA, is a two-time recipient of the Athletic Academic Excellence Award. A starting outfielder on the baseball team in his first three years at CSU, he walked on to the men's basketball team this year and saw action in four games.

The teams are selected by the Horizon League Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives from nominees who carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or better, have completed at least three semesters at the same institution and are a starter or significant contributor on their team.
