CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State has been selected to play in the 2012 NIT and the sixth-seeded Vikings will open play at third-seeded Stanford in a first round game on Tuesday (March 13) at 11:00 p.m. EST.

The game, which will be televised on ESPN2, will mark the fifth time in program history that CSU will play in the NIT and the second consecutive season. It is also the fourth postseason appearance in the last five years for the Vikings under head coach Gary Waters (3 NIT's and 1 NCAA).

"I am so happy for the young men in our program because they have been given the opportunity to play in the postseason," Waters said. "This team has played hard throughout the season and played against some of the best teams in the country. This group is very deserving of receiving a postseason bid and I thank the NIT selection committee for the honor."

A victory at Stanford would send the Vikings into the second round against the winner of another first round game between second-seeded Ole Miss and seventh seeded Illinois State.

The Vikings enter the NIT with a 22-10 record, while the Cardinal is 21-11.

This is the seventh postseason appearance for the Vikings in program history with CSU owning a 3-2 record in two NCAA appearances and a 3-4 mark during four trips to the NIT.
