Cleveland Foodbank Teams Up with Cleveland State Viking Basketball To Feed Hungry Northeast Ohioans

Feb. 10, 2003

CLEVELAND - Cleveland State University has designated its men's basketball game against Youngstown State on Thursday, February 13 as "Have a Heart for the Hungry" night. Cleveland Foodbank volunteers will be on hand from 6-8 p.m. at the CSU Convocation Center to collect non-perishable food items or cash donations. Cleveland State will offer all contributors 2-for-1 admission to the game that night.

Tip-off for the game between the Vikings and the Penguins is 7 p.m. and the CSU Convocation Center gates will open at 6 p.m. Foodbank volunteers will be at the northeast and northwest ticket lobbies to accept donations and distribute discount ticket vouchers.

"CSU Athletics is honored to partner with the Cleveland Foodbank to provide much-needed help for the hungry at this critical time," said CSU athletic director Lee Reed. "Our department and university remain committed to participating in efforts like 'Have a Heart for the Hungry' that support the Cleveland community."

The Cleveland Foodbank is the link between those with food to spare and agencies that serve the hungry. In 2002, the Cleveland Foodbank distributed more than 18.5 million pounds of food to over 400 nonprofit organizations in Northeast Ohio. This was enough food to provide nearly 14 million meals for hungry men, women and children in our community.
