Postgame Quotes

Cleveland State Head Coach Mike Garland: "I thought that what it really came down to was that we outmatched them athletically. But when it came to hustle and guts, particularly in that first half, they had more than us. As the game went on, some of our key players decided that it was time to step their games up and come and play."

"Frashon McGee came in and lifted us up. All he does is what he is supposed to do. Nothing special, he just does what he is supposed to do. Once he started rolling, our kids started to attack as opposed to just settling for outside shots. Once we decided to get it down into our post players and get it into J'Nathan Bullock, it was real hard for them to guard us."

"We talked to the kids early on before the game about going out there and just having fun. I think my kids still feel the pressure of every game and want to win so badly that sometimes we don't get loose."

Cleveland State guard Carlos English: "This was their Super Bowl and for us it was just another game, but these are the types of games that you have to mentally get yourself up for because at any time they could have taken the lead and turned the whole game around. We just kind of put our hands down and made it less of a close game."

Cleveland State forward Frashon McGee: "This is a cross-town rivalry. John Carroll plays hard and we expected them to play hard. Some of us felt that this was going to be their Super Bowl."

Cleveland State forward J'Nathan Bullock: "It was kind of a hard game to get up for because we are playing a Division III team and everybody underestimates teams at a lower level. My whole mindset was to just play my game because I had a history of playing bad against lesser competition."

On the slow start: "I believe that we didn't come out ready to play. I give them credit for coming out and fighting us. They gave us an effort like we gave at Michigan State."

John Carroll Head Coach Mike Moran: "I thought that we got a lot of great looks in the first half. But you have to make your shots. I'm a little disappointed that some of our players really didn't step up to the plate. We have to play a near-perfect game to take them down to the wire or compete in that fashion."

"I thought that for three-quarters of the game that it was a solid game. Cleveland State is a well coached team. They are an athletic team and obviously you can see a little bit of a difference between a Division I and a Division III athlete. In order for us to be in there, we would have had to have played a much better offensive game."
