Recap | Final Stats | Notes
Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters:
(Opening Statement) "That first half was not a Cleveland State first half, but it was a Cleveland State first half defensively. They are a good team. They hold teams to below 40% shooting, and we knew that. I thought our guys did a good job in the second half in regrouping and getting it to the open players."
(Keys to the victory) "We're rebounding a little better, and that's a key factor. And I think our guys know our defense now. We can get a lot better, because there are certain guys that are understanding everything, but there are other guys who don't, so we gotta bring them along slowly and get this thing right."
(On Norris Cole's first half) "We go as Norris goes. Norris was 0-9 in the first half, so they were guarding him well. In the first half though we missed six pinpoint layups. If we make the layups, it's a different half."
(On the strong defensive play) "The positive thing is that our kids are starting to believe that regardless if we're not getting it done offensively, we can get it done defensively and keep us in the game."
(On Ludo Ndaye) "He's getting better. I thought he played extremely well. The more he plays the better he will be. When you're going to see his growth is next year, because this is a major learning experience for him."
(On Robert Morris) "They beat us last year. They got good guards, so we're going to battle at that position. That's their strength. They're going to be active and they're going to be mobile, and they really step it up defensively."
Cleveland State's Norris Cole:
(On his slow start) "I shot bad in the first half, but as a team we were winning in both halves. Our defense was great in the first half and I knew eventually it would come around. As long as we're winning I don't care."
(What the coach said at halftime) "We were in the game because we kept defending them. As long as we keep defending them we have a chance to win, and that's what we did."
(On being 7-0) "I know we haven't played as well as we can, We practice hard and work hard every day and that's why we're 7-0, but we have to keep working."
Cleveland State's Jeremy Montgomery:
(On his big game) "I was due for one. My coach has been getting on me and working with me and giving me the confidence to knock down the shots for my team."
St. Bonaventure Head Coach Mark Schmidt:
(Opening remarks) "I give Cleveland State credit, I thought the first half we defended and rebounded defensively but our offense wasn't there. I thought in the first 8 minutes of the second half Cleveland State went at us and we didn't respond to it. You're not going to beat anyone with 24 turnovers. That was the bottom line, we didn't handle the oppression the way we need to win the game."
(On what CSU did well in the second half) "We just didn't attack it right, and when we did attack it we made mistakes. The biggest thing was them getting after us in the full court and us not handling it."
(On the loss) "The bottom line is that we turned the ball over. From a defensive standpoint, from an offensive standpoint, we did alright. We need to get better. But we lost because we turned the ball over."
