Cleveland State vs. John Carroll

Nov. 22, 2006

Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters:  "Our guys didn't realize at first that John Carroll came ready to play. That team came ready to play and I give them credit. Once we realized that they could play, we did an outstanding job of defending. Our inside guys shut down their inside guys, and that's what we do."

On Playing Defense Without Fouling: "I tried to tell our guys to not commit fouls because it slows the game down. We were stopping them in the second half, but they were living at the free throw line. We just need to come out more ready and not take things for granted."

On Taking Care Of The Ball: "Our goal for every game is to be under 12 turnovers. We've been pretty consistent, but we commit too many careless turnovers. We have to do a better job."

On Play Of Joe Davis: "I thought Joe's defense changed the complexity of the game. He took John Carroll out of its offense. And he's a scorer. We want to give him a lot of freedom. You have to understand that he scores double figures coming off the bench. He's a natural scorer and he has the potential to give our team a lift."

Cleveland State Guard Joe Davis On His Defense: "Coach Waters always says that whoever plays defense on this team is going to play, so I always keep that in my mind and play defense with all my heart."

Cleveland State Guard Carlos English On His Improvement Lately:  "I'm just taking it slowly, getting my teammates involved and not trying to rush anything. We'll be fine if we just take what the defense gives us."
