Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters:
(opening statement) "This was one of those kind of frustrating games. It was a tempo-controlling game. They had a good flow going, but I gotta give our kids credit. We realy focused on the free throw line, and we also worked on our rebounding."

(playing time) "Harmon and Cole both had 39 minutes, that's quite a long time Even Pogue - first time in a year, 30 minutes - and I'm delighted about that. We didn't want that to happend but the game dictated that. They were playing 4 guards and were pressing us It was like a chess game. You have to find the openings and pick the particular piece to play every time."

(On Luda) "I've been working with Luda to be that 4-man. That's hard to play, because the 4-man is the toughest job we have, so you need a good person at that position. We've been working him into that position. We had to pick where to play him. He has one important part of his game: toughness. You need some length out there and some toughness."

(On if he watched the Kent State game) "I didn't sneak a peek, I looked at that whole game. They are good. They are good for a team that has so many new faces. They have athleticism, they have guard play, they have a leader in Sherman. When you have a person like that who can lead and communicate like he does, they have a chance to do some really good things this year. When you're at home you have to take care of business, whether it's Kent or anyone."

Cleveland State's Noris Cole:
(Not getting rattled) "Experience plays a part. This is Tre's third year, this is Jeremy's third year. In those three years you pick up experience, experience you can't get in a practice, and as a guard you can't get rattled out there. We don't get frustrated and we stay poised and we take our team through."

(the back court) "They were confident. They have been working hard in the offseason, working on their game, trying to fit our system. Anytime you have confidence, anytime you work hard, something good is going to come out of it."

(on his leg) "I just came down in transition and made a move and I came down on it. It wasn't broken, and players have to play, so I got up and kept going. It feels great now."

Cleveland State's Trevon Harmon:
(on the double double) "It's great. It's nothing to be super excited about because its within my abilities and the coaches have been getting on me on that all year to score and so I had the confidence."

(on his performance) "I was pleased we got off to the start we got off to. Coach has the confidence in me. I've been a scorer all my life and we just have to make sure we keep working hard."

Iona Head Coach Tim Cluess:
(opening statement) "I thought the guards on Cleveland State played well, they stepped up and made shots, came off the bench and played well when we hoped they wouldn't."

(playing in the tournament) "It let's you know. There's no plus side at this time because I'm a new coach. We haven't had time prepare and have had injuries like crazy. Playing three days in a row, it let's you know what you have in your guys, and that's one thing I like about it."

"I think its good for us personally bcause you find your weaknesses out right away, and we have a lot of things to go back and work on after this. I think our starters effortwise was great, but our benches don't have those horses, and that's something we'll have to work on."
