Postgame Quotes

Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters:
"It was men playing against boys today and that's how they treated us, like boys. And you can't win like that. We didn't go after it. They came into our house and beat us and that's disappointing."

"We started out well, but we went to the bench and things changed."

"We could have won this game, but we didn't score when we could have cut into it. Shot selection was questionable at times and we made bad plays going to the basket."

"This will never happen here again. We will right this ship and have some players in here physical enough to do things. This was embarrassing."

"We just have to play game by game. We have to prepare for Wright State and they are coming in here ready to play for second place."

Cleveland State's Norris Cole:
"I saw a letdown of intensity on our part. They started attacking us and we didn't respond the correct way and didn't fight back. We got off to a good start, but the energy changed and we didn't respond to adversity"

"We knew what they were going to do. THey wanted to get the ball out of my hands and I didn't get back to the ball like I should have and we rushed ourselves. We were prepared for that but didn't respond the right way."

"Turnovers killed us. We had a chance to get back into the game, but they got three offensive rebounds and took more time off the clock and that killed us."

Detroit Head Coach Ray McCallum:
"It was an important basketball game for us. It was very hard fought and both teams played really hard. Cleveland State came out ready to go and to put us in that kind of deficit showed they were ready to go. But we hung in there and battled back and made a run to close the half. We went into the locker room with confidence and we have been a strong second half team and were able to maintain our consistency."

"A key in the second half was being able to keep them in front of us and find their shooters."

"Xavier followed Cleveland State's run last year and he came out and played with great energy and confidence today. When he plays with that energy and confidence, it helps our team and obviously he was ready to go."

"When we are playing well, a lot of guys can make a basket for us. Balance is a good indication that we are playing good basketball and that's what we had tonight."

"We're at our best when we're aggressive and that's what we showed tonight. We went to our bench and called on a lot of guys, but I like to get they guys off their feet for a few minutes and we got positive production when we did that. Another key was our ball movement. We were able to get the ball inside and get scores, kick it out and make the extra pass and get rhythm shots and we continued to attack and make good decisions on the break."
