Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Signs Tahj Staveskie to Letter of Intent

Cleveland, OH-Tahj Staveskie is the newest addition to the Cleveland State men's basketball program, head coach Daniyal Robinson announced today. Staveskie joins the program after playing at Canisius the last two seasons and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

"I'm thrilled to extend a warm welcome to Tahj Staveskie, the latest addition to our 2024 recruiting class," said Coach Robinson. "Tahj's arrival brings not just skill and IQ, but an innate sense of leadership to our team. I was incredibly impressed by Tahj's maturity throughout the recruiting process and how he has handled adversity in his college career up to this point. Tahj can play on or off the ball and will be a dynamic piece to the puzzle heading into next season. We're really excited to add his mix of ball handling and shooting into the rotation. Join us in welcoming Tahj to the Viking Family!"

Staveskie, a 6'0" guard from Sandusky, OH, excelled in his two seasons at Canisius. He was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team after his redshirt freshman season in 2022-23. Staveskie played in and started every game that season and averaged 12.4 points per game. He finished second on the team in scoring and recorded the fourth-best points per game average by a freshman in program history. Staveskie scored in double figures in 20 games and recorded 15 or more points ten times. He shot 87 percent from the free throw line and ended the season making 22 consecutive free throws.

Staveskie was named to the All-MAAC second team prior to the 2023-24 season. He played in two games before missing the remainder of the season with a lower body injury. He registered career highs of 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists during his time with the Golden Griffins.

Prior to playing at Canisius, Staveskie played one season at SPIRE Institute in Geneva where he averaged 20 points and six assists per game during his lone season. Staveskie played his high school basketball at Sandusky High School, where he scored over 1,200 career points. He averaged 25.6 points per game his senior year and was named the Sandusky Bay Conference and District 6 Player of the Year.

Staveskie is joined in his commitment by his family Anziyah, Tahj Jr., and Zaki. He has four siblings, brothers Tyler and Bryson and sisters Miriah and Aaliyah.
