Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Falls at Oakland

Rochester, MI-The Cleveland State men's basketball team wrapped up a 1-1 trip through the State of Michigan with an 83-71 loss at Oakland on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings defeated Detroit Mercy on Thursday night but could not complete the weekend sweep as Oakland improved to 10-3 in league play. The Vikings fell to 14-10 overall and 7-6 in Horizon League action. 

Tristan Enaruna registered his fourth consecutive game with 20 or more points, finishing with 23 on 9-of-16 shooting from the field. Enaruna finished with four rebounds, two assists and two steals in the contest. 

Tevin Smith finished with 14 points and was an efficient 5-of-9 from the floor. Smith converted on three of four attempts from three-point range, accounting for almost half of Cleveland State's seven made three-pointers in the game.

Dylan Arnett earned the first double-double of his career, finishing with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Arnett filled up the stat sheet, adding two assists, a steal and a block to his totals.

The Vikings got off to a fast start on the road, jumping out to a 9-4 advantage less than three minutes into the game. Enaruna converted a short jumper in the paint to give Cleveland State the five-point lead at the 17:47 mark.

Cleveland State held the lead until the 13-minute mark, when Oakland's Blake Lampman hit a three-pointer that put the Golden Grizzlies ahead 13-11. Oakland stretched the lead to nine before the Vikings went on a 7-2 run to cut the deficit back to one with just under five minutes left in the half.

The Golden Grizzlies held the lead the rest of the way, as OU carried a 12-point advantage into the halftime break and stretched the lead as high as 19 in the second half. Cleveland State did cut it to single digits with just over seven minutes to play, but the Vikings could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Cleveland State remains on the road to take on Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday night at the Mastodons' Memorial Coliseum. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
