Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Falls at Wright State

Fairborn, OH-The Cleveland State men's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped Thursday night as the Vikings fell 82-70 at Wright State's Nutter Center. The Vikings are 10-6 overall and 3-2 in Horizon League play. Wright State improves to 7-8 and 2-2.

Wright State started the game on an 11-2 run, hitting nine of its first 10 field goal attempts. The Raiders led the entire way. Each time the Vikings cut into the deficit, WSU had an answer. The Vikings struggled from the field and from the free throw line, finishing at 38 percent from the field and just 5-of-13 from the charity stripe. Wright State shot a sizzling 60 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range.

Three Vikings finished in double figures, led by Chase Robinson and Tae Williams who finished with 15 points apiece. Robinson set a new season-high with his total, finishing 6-of-12 from the field and connecting on three of his four attempts from three-point range. He registered a team high three steals. Williams finished 7-of-12 from the floor in the contest.

Drew Lowder finished with 14 points on 5-of-14 from the field. Lowder tied the team lead with three makes from three-point range.

The early Wright State run forced a Cleveland State timeout just under three minutes into the game. Wright State carried the nine-point advantage into the first media timeout, leading 19-10 with 13:55 left in the first half.

The Wright State lead stretched to 25-10 with 12:27 remaining, before the Vikings found their stride and went on a 15-0 run over the next five minutes to tie the score at 25 with 7:47 to go.

Wright State went on a quick 6-0 spurt to retake the lead and the two teams traded mini runs down the stretch of the first half. The Raiders led 39-35 at the break 

Wright State grew the lead to as large as 18 in the second half. Cleveland State trimmed the deficit to single digits multiple times down the stretch, but the Vikings could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Cleveland State returns to the Wolstein Center on Sunday to take on Northern Kentucky in a rematch of last year's Horizon League Tournament Championship Game at 4:00 p.m. Fans can purchase two lower-level tickets for $20.24 to mark the first home game of the New Year.
