Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Stays Perfect at Home with Win over Western Michigan

Cleveland, OH-The Cleveland State men's basketball team improved to 7-0 at home and 8-5 overall with a win over Western Michigan, 90-77, at the Wolstein Center Thursday night. Western Michigan falls to 2-9. 

The Vikings took the lead in the game's opening minutes and never trailed. Tristan Enaruna and Jayson Woodrich each posted career highs in scoring in the win. The Vikings tied their season-low with just seven turnovers, while forcing Western Michigan into 19.

Enaruna was dominant, specifically in the second half, tallying 32 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. He added four steals and four assists, which led the team, while shooting 12-21 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Enaruna scored 23 points in the second half.

Woodrich registered a career best with 21 points on the night. Woodrich shot 50 percent from the floor and connected on five three-pointers for the game, which ties a career high. He finished a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line and was third on the team with six rebounds.

Two additional Vikings finished in double figures. Drew Lowder tallied 13 points and Tae Williams finished with 11. Lowder shot 50 percent from the field for the game and finished 3-of-6 from three. He was a key contributor early, with all 13 points coming in the first half. Williams finished just shy of a double-double, with nine rebounds to go with his 11 points. Williams added one assist and two steals to his stat line.

The Vikings got off to a quick start early, pushing their lead to double digits a little under eight minutes into the game. Lowder knocked down a three-pointer at the 12:34 mark which made it 23-11 Vikings.

The lead remained in double figures throughout most of the rest of the first half. The Broncos did cut it to single digits late, but the Vikings finished the half on a high note and closed with a 46-34 lead headed into the locker room.

The Broncos never got closer than two possessions throughout the second half. The CSU lead grew as large as 17 with a little over three minutes remaining.

The Vikings head into the holiday break on a two-game winning streak, with the resumption of Horizon League play up next. Oakland visits the Wolstein Center on December 28th for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
