Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Drops Non-League Game at Kent State

Kent, OH-The Cleveland State men's basketball team fell on the road Saturday afternoon at Kent State, 83-77. The game was tight early before Kent State used a sizeable run to open up a double-digit lead at halftime. The Vikings mounted a late rally to trim the lead back to single digits but could never get close enough to overtake the Golden Flashes down the stretch. The loss drops Cleveland State to 6-5. Kent State improves to 7-3.

Tristan Enaruna led all scorers in the game with 22 points. Enaruna finished 10-16 from the field. His turnaround jumper at the six-minute mark of the first half put him over the 1,000-point mark in his college career.

Tae Williams finished with 16 points on 7-13 from the field. Williams connected on two of his three three-point tries in the contest. He also added six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Dylan Arnett set a new career high with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. Arnett achieved this despite being in foul trouble for the majority of the first half.

Cleveland State got off to a good start in the road environment. Arnett recorded a steal on the game's opening possession and raced the other way for a two-hand dunk to give the Vikings the first points of the game. Cleveland State scored six of the first eight points to seize an early four-point advantage.

Kent State responded with two quick buckets to tie the game at six headed into the first media timeout. Arnett quickly picked up his second foul and headed to the bench. The Golden Flashes used a sizeable edge on the glass and 28 points in the paint in the first half to seize control of the game. KSU held a 46-28 lead at the halftime break.

The Kent State lead grew as large as 21 points with 7:26 remaining in the game before the Vikings mounted a late charge. Cleveland State cut the lead to 13 on a Drew Lowder three-pointer with 4:45 left, but Kent State responded with a three-point play to stop the momentum and keep the lead in double digits.

Cleveland State eventually worked the deficit back to single digits with under a minute to play, but the Vikings weren't able to draw closer than two possessions as the clock wound down.

Cleveland State will be off from competition due to final exams next week. The Vikings will return to the court on Friday, December 15 with a third straight game away from home at Bradley.
