Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Signs Tevin Smith to Letter of Intent

Cleveland, OH-Tevin Smith, a 6'5" guard from Danville, Illinois, is the newest addition to the Cleveland State Men's Basketball program, Head Coach Daniyal Robinson announced today. 

Smith comes to Cleveland State as a transfer from the University of Denver where he played two seasons for the Pioneers. Smith will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"We are thrilled to announce the addition of Tevin Smith to the Viking Family," said Coach Robinson. "Tevin is a big guard who excels both on and off the floor. He is a proven scorer at the Division I level using his elite athleticism and shot making ability from all over the floor. For all the excitement we have for Tevin on the hardwood, we're even more excited about the young man we're bringing into the fold. Tevin comes from a great family and his vibrant personality makes him a perfect fit in our locker room. 

Smith appeared in 55 games over his two seasons at Denver, starting 46 of them. He averaged double figures in scoring in both seasons averaging 10.4 points per game as a freshman and improving to 10.9 points per game as a sophomore. 

In his sophomore season Smith shot 45 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range and 71 percent at the free throw line. Smith also exceled as a shot-blocker, averaging 1.1 blocks per game during his freshman campaign which ranked third in the Summit League. He became the first freshman in Denver history to earn a Summit League Player of the Week award after notching his first career double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds at Kansas City on January 17, 2022. Smith finished the game perfect from the field, making all seven of his field goal attempts and all eight from the charity stripe. 

Smith was a standout at Danville High School in Danville, IL. He was rated a three-star recruit by 247 sports after being named the WCIA 3 Boys Basketball Player of the Year. He averaged 20.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals in his senior season. 

Smith is joined by his parents Tanisha Allen and Kevin Smith. He has four siblings; sisters Tierra Brown and Aaliyah Smith, and brothers Kevin Smith and Traye Allen.
