Daniyal Robinson Nominated for Multiple Coach of the Year Awards

Cleveland, OH-Head Men's Basketball Coach Daniyal Robinson has been nominated for multiple National Coach of the Year awards, announced by College Insider this week. 

Robinson is a nominee for the Joe B. Hall award, which is presented annually to the top first-time head coach in Division I College Basketball. The award is named for longtime Kentucky assistant coach Joe B. Hall, who was given the task of taking over for the legendary Adolph Rupp at Kentucky. Hall won 20 games in his first season in charge of the program. 

Coach Robinson is also a nominee for the Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year award, which is presented annually to the top minority coach in Division I. Ben Jobe is is best known as the head coach of Southern University, a position he held for 12 seasons. He was also head coach at Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Talladega, Tuskegee and South Carolina State. 

Robinson is one of ten coaches nominated for the Joe B. Hall award and is part of a group of 25 nominees for the Ben Jobe award. The winners of both awards will be announced at the Final Four in Houston later this month. 

Robinson has led Cleveland State to 21 wins so far in his first season in charge of the program. This total is the best for a first-year coach in program history. The Vikings finished in a tie for second place in the league standings and as the runner-up in the Horizon League Tournament after being picked seventh in the preseason poll. 

Robinson is one of six nominees to win 20 or more games in his first season. The Vikings are awaiting word on postseason opportunities, stay tuned to csuvikings.com for additional information.
