The Cleveland State Men's Basketball team completed a perfect first weekend of conference play with a 92-77 victory over Detroit Mercy in front of 1,409 at the Wolstein Center.
The Vikings(6-3, 2-0 HL) won their sixth in a row thanks to a hot shooting day from the floor, and a sound effort defensively, forcing the Titans(4-5, 1-1 HL) into 15 turnovers.
Tae Williams had a big game on both ends of the floor, finishing with a season and career-high 23 points, and adding 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Williams finished 10-18 from the floor and also added three assists and a steal.
Yahel Hill ended with 19 points, including two big three point makes in the first half to help the Vikings jump out to the early lead. Hill also finished a perfect six for six from the free throw line.
Deshon Parker added 17, as well as six assists. Parker led the league in assists per game coming into today's games, and his 17 points are a season-high.
Jayson Woodrich also finished in double figures, with 12 points on the afternoon. Woodrich shot 50% from the floor and also had a perfect day at the free throw line, finishing three for three.
Cleveland State seized control of the game early, just as it did on Thursday. The Vikings raced to a 16 point lead just under eight minutes into the game, scoring 18 unanswered points after the Titans got the first bucket. Cleveland State led 23-9 at the halfway point of the first half.
A Tristan Enaruna three at the 8:53 mark made it 29-11, widening the lead to 18 points.
The lead hovered in the mid double-digits for the majority of the first half, until a late Detroit Mercy run cut it to nine headed into the locker room.
The two teams went back and forth in the early going of the second half, until the Vikings took over with just under 12 minutes to play. A Yahel Hill three at the ten minute mark capped an 8-0 Cleveland State run to push the lead to 15 points.
The Viking lead grew to as large as 24 in the later stages of the half, a Tae Williams layup made it 90-66 with a little over three minutes to play.
The 92 points is the highest scoring output of the season for Cleveland State. The Vikings shot 50% from the floor(32-63) and connected on nine of 20 three point tries for 45%.
Up next, Cleveland State heads back on the road, and out of conference as the Vikings travel to St. Bonaventure for a 7 p.m. tip on Wednesday night.
