Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Defeats Western Michigan for Fourth Straight Win

The Cleveland State Men's Basketball team won its fourth consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, defeating Western Michigan 71-49. The Vikings(4-3) led from the outset and used a stifling defense to force the Broncos(2-5) into 15 turnovers and held WMU to 18% from three point range.

Cleveland State shot a blistering 48% from the floor, and 43% from the three point line. The Vikings also finished a perfect five for five from the free throw line in the contest.

The win is Cleveland State's first on the road over a MAC school since 2013, and the first time the Vikings have won back-to-back true road non-conference games since 2011.

Two Vikings finished in double figures, with Drew Lowder leading the way with 15 points. Lowder finished 6-9 from the floor, including 3-5 from beyond the three point arc.

Tristan Enaruna finished with 14 points and five rebounds, and was an efficient 6-10 from the floor in the game.

Defensively, Cleveland State out-rebounded WMU 34-32, and limited the Broncos to 19 points in the first half. This marks the second time CSU has held an opponent to 20 or less in a half, both of which have been in road victories.

Cleveland State dictated the pace of the game from the opening tip, and quickly seized control in the first half. The Vikings led by four through the first four minutes, and used an 8-0 run capped by an Enaruna dunk to open up a 15 point advantage at the nine minute mark of the first half.

From there the lead grew to as large as 19, when Cole Middleton made a layup in traffic with under a minute to play. Cleveland State led at the half 38-19.

In the second half, CSU once again started fast, as the Vikings scored the first three baskets of the half for a 7-0 spurt that pushed the lead to 26 points.

CSU played well on both ends of the floor, and was able to comfortably hold the lead throughout the rest of the half. Jayson Woodrich nailed a three pointer with six minutes remaining, which upped the lead to 30.

The Vikings were once again balanced on the offensive end, as all but three of the 13 players who played in the game scored.

Up next, Cleveland State will host Oakland in the first Horizon League game of 2022-23. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Wolstein Center, and Viking fans can purchase tickets for the contest HERE.
