Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Wins Third Straight, Defeating Chicago State

The Cleveland State Men's Basketball team won its third consecutive game, defeating Chicago State to finish 2-0 in the Turkey Slam – Cleveland State Regional. The Vikings(3-3) used an early second half surge to pull away from the Cougars(2-5), winning 77-63 in front of 1,500 at the Wolstein Center.

Yet again, a balanced offensive attack was critical to Cleveland State's success on Wednesday. Overall five Vikings finished in double figures for the game, led by Tristan Enaruna with 14 points. Deshon Parker added 13 and six assists. Jayson Woodrich finished with 12 points on 3-6 shooting beyond the three-point arc. Yahel Hill finished with 10 points, and Drew Lowder also had 10 off the bench.

Woodrich was named the Cleveland State Regional MVP, and Enaruna landed on the All-Tournament Team. The 77 points is a season high for Cleveland State, and the Vikings also committed a season low five turnovers.

Cleveland State started fast, opening up a double-digit lead just under halfway through the first half. A Deante Johnson dunk at the 11:11 mark put CSU up 13, and then back-to-back threes from Woodrich with just under ten minutes to play widened the gap to 14 at 24-10.

As the first half clock wound down, the Cougars fought back. Chicago State used a 13-2 run over the last 3:53 to draw even, and it was 34-34 headed into the halftime locker room.

The Vikings came out of the halftime break with a vengeance, scoring the first eight points of the half to set the tone for the rest of the game. Back-to-back buckets from Tae Williams and a Deshon Parker dunk made it 42-34 just under four minutes in.

From there the Vikings finished strong, as the lead grew to as large as 16 as the half drew to a close.

Cleveland State finished at 51% from the floor, and held Chicago State to just 7 of 18 from beyond the arc.

The Vikings will next travel to Western Michigan for a game on Saturday afternoon. The matchup at the Broncos' University Arena will tip off at noon.
