Cleveland State Men’s Basketball falls at Ohio

The Cleveland State Men's Basketball team dropped a tough 81-70 decision to Ohio on Saturday. The Vikings(0-3) shot 50% from the floor in the second half but Ohio(1-1) was just as impressive offensively. The Bobcats shot 52% from the floor on the afternoon and 58% from three in the second half.

Cleveland State was led by Yahel Hill, who poured in a career-high 20 points. 14 of those points came after halftime. Hill finished 5 of 12 from the floor, and 7-9 from the charity stripe. He also added three rebounds.

Joining Hill in double figures was Tae Williams, who had 12 points on an efficient 5-7 shooting day from the field. Deante Johnson added 11 points and 8 rebounds in 32 minutes. Drew Lowder added 10 points off the bench, including two three point makes. He and Hill combined for five of the six made threes for CSU on the day.

The two teams traded baskets early, with Ohio holding a two point edge at the third media timeout with just under seven and a half minutes left in the first half.

Momentum shifted Ohio's way when Deshon Parker picked up his second foul at the 4:55 mark. Parker sat the rest of the first half, and Ohio scored 13 unanswered points to open up an eight point lead at the break.

The Vikings put up a valiant effort in the second half, but Ohio's offense was too much to overcome. CSU shot 13-26 from the floor after halftime, and put up 40 points in the final 20 minutes.

The Bobcats were led by Jaylin Hunter who finished with 17 points. Three of the five starters for both teams finished in double figures.

Cleveland State will travel to Canisus next, for another road contest on Wednesday night. The game tips off at 7 p.m.
