Let the Games Begin: Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship Tips Off Friday

NEW ORLEANS – The 2022 Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship tips off Friday at The Sugar Mill in New Orleans, where many of the top seniors from across the nation will compete for their share of a $150,000 prize pool in front of diehard hoops fans watching the action in person and around the country on ESPN2, ESPNU and Twitter.

In total, the 64 players, who have chosen to pursue professional basketball opportunities, represent each Division I conference. The 16, four-man teams boast an impressive collection of talent that will make for three exciting days of basketball as teams compete for their share of the $150,000 prize pool. Forty of the 64 players competing in the event earned All-Conference honors this season. Of those 40, 21 earned first-team accolades, four won their league's Player of the Year award and 20 were recognized as NABC All-District performers.

Standout guard Torrey Patton will represent Cleveland State on the big stage as a part of the Horizon Valley Hoopers squad. He will be joined by Michael Akuchie (Youngstown State), Gaige Prim (Missouri State) and Tremell Murphy (Drake). The Dayton, Ohio native will get his tournament apperance started on Friday with games against the MEAC/SWAC (7 PM ET), SEC/SoCon (8:20 PM) and Pac 12/WCC (8:40 PM) squads. All three contests will be broadcast live on the 3X3UHoops twitter account.

Saturday's slate includes rematches against the MEAC/SWAC (1:10 PM ET), SEC/SoCon (2:10 PM) and Pac 12/WCC (4:50 PM) groups. The first two games will appear on Twitter while the final contest will be featured on ESPNU.

Teams will play each squad in their respective pool on Friday and Saturday before all 16 will head to the knockout stage on Sunday, with the top two teams from each pool receiving byes to the quarterfinals. The winning team from each pool play game will win $1,000, victories in the first two knockout rounds will net another $1,000, a quarterfinal win is worth $5,000, a semifinal triumph is another $10,000, while the team that takes home the Tournament title will add $50,000 to their winnings. 

The Tournament will once again receive non-stop coverage via Twitter and on ESPN networks. Every second of the 2022 Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship will be available to a national audience beginning with pool play games on Friday and Saturday, and knockout rounds on Sunday.

Dos Equis returns as the fourth-year title sponsor of the 3X3U National Championship, leading a roster of premium brands that will be part of the Tournament experience. As part of their on-site activities, fans 21 and older will have the opportunity to sample new Dos Equis products. The Sugar Mill is one of New Orleans' premier multi-use venue in the downtown area, having hosted conventions, concerts, trade shows, sporting events and a litany of other special events. With a combined 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, The Sugar Mill provides the perfect footprint for three days of highly competitive basketball and fan friendly experiences.
