Men’s Basketball falls in Horizon League Semis to Wright State; Set for NIT bid

INDIANAPOLIS – The Cleveland State men's basketball program's run as the top team in the Horizon League came to an end on Monday night after over a two-year run as the No. 1 program as the Vikings fell to Wright State in the Horizon League Semifinals at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. 

The Vikings are still set for postseason play as CSU received an automatic bid to the NIT Tournament.

FINAL SCORE: Cleveland State – 67, Wright State– 82 
LOCATION: Indiana Farmers Coliseum – Indianapolis, Indiana
RECORDS: Cleveland State 20-10 (15-6 Horizon), Robert Morris 20-13 (12-3 Horizon)

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- D'Moi Hodge finished with a team-high 16 points on a 7-of-15 night from the field. He also added three blocks, two boards, an assist and a steal. It was the 25thdouble-digit scoring game of the season for the Tortola, Virgin Islands native.

- Broc Finstuen was the only other Viking in double-figures as he dropped 12 points along with a team-high nine rebounds, three assists and a steal. 

- Deshon Parker added eight points on a perfect 3-of-3 from the field to go with two steals.

- Jayson Woodrich and Chris Greene each put in seven points during the contest, respectively.

- Cleveland State bounced back with a strong 16-of-36 from the field (.444) in the second half, but it wasn't enough to make up for its 9-of-27 (.333) opening 20 minutes, as Wright State shot 49 percent over the entire course of the contest (25-of-51).

- CSU forced 19 Raider turnovers.

- Wright State never trailed in the contest, as the Raiders led for 38:28 overall. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Wright State jumped out to a 22-10 advantage through the first eight minutes of the game.

- CSU battled back and got it to a 27-24 contest with 5:57 left in the first as the Vikes responded with a 14-5 run.

- WSU responded right back with a 9-2 edge to close out the first to take a 36-26 lead into the tunnel.

- Cleveland State continued to work itself back in the game, getting as close as seven with 12:08 and 9:06 left in the contest.

- Everytime the Vikes went on a run, Wright State had an answer as the Raiders went on to close out the 82-67 victory.
