Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Picks Up 84-71 Victory Over Milwaukee

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's basketball team picked up its second straight win Sunday afternoon, earning an 84-71 victory over Milwaukee.  With the win, the Vikings are now 16-5 overall this season and 12-2 in Horizon League play.  

Game Stats
· Cleveland State's offense was led by D'Moi Hodge with 21 points, while Yahel Hill added 17 points, Torrey Patton tallied 15 and Deante Johnson added 10 points.
· Deante Johnson and Tre Gomillion both grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Torrey Patton recorded six boards.
· As a team, the Vikings shot 49-percent from the field, including a .517 clip during the first half.
· Cleveland State finished with 19 assists on the game, while Deshon Parker posted a team-high seven.
· The Vikings recorded six blocked shots on the game, including three from Deante Johnson and two from D'Moi Hodge.

Game Notes
· D'Moi Hodge recorded his seventh 20-point game of the season after finishing with 21 against Milwaukee.
· Deante Johnson became the seventh Viking all-time to reach 100 career blocked shots, finishing with 102 after notching three against the Panthers.
· Cleveland State's 19 assists marks the third straight game the Vikings have posted 19+ assists.
· The Vikings have now shot 45-percent or better from the field 15 times this season after posting a .492 clip against the Panthers.
· Cleveland State had one of its better free throw performances Sunday, going 19-for-22 from the free throw line.
· Cleveland State now stands at 13-2 when playing at the Wolstein Center this season.
· With the win, the Vikings remained in first place in the Horizon League standings.

The Game
For the second straight game the Vikings were able to gain an early advantage during the first half, and went on to hold a 46-28 lead at the halftime break.

The Vikings were then able to slowly extend their lead over the opening minutes of the second half, as a Torrey Patton three-pointer at the 16:48 mark put the Vikings up by 19 points at 54-35. Cleveland State then gained a 20-point lead two minutes later, as a Yahel Hill three-pointer put the Vikings up 59-37 with just under 15 minutes left to play.

A Patton layup on Cleveland State's next possession put the Vikings up 61-37, before Milwaukee responded with six straight points of their own, to put the score at 61-43 CSU.

The Vikings were able to snap the Panther scoring run with a Jayson Woodrich three-pointer, before four straight points from D'Moi Hodge gave the Vikings a 68-43 lead with 10:43 left on the clock.

The two teams then traded baskets over the next few possessions, until a pair of Patton free throws and a Hodge layup put the Vikings up 76-57.

Cleveland State was then able to hold off a late Panther run over the final minutes of the contest, with Ben Sternberg going 1-for-2 from the free throw line to put the final point on the board for the Vikings, as they came away with the 84-71 victory.
