The Game
After trailing by as many as 13 points during the opening half, Cleveland State worked its way back into the contest over a span of 3:27, as a 12-2 run gave the Vikings their first lead of the contest on a Broc Finstuen offensive rebound and put-back at the 2:29 mark.
The Raiders were then able to post the final three points of the frame, taking a 33-30 lead into the halftime break.
The Vikings were able to even the contest at the start of the second half then, as a Torrey Patton three-pointer just over one minute into the frame put the score at 33-33, before the two teams traded baskets over the next few possessions, until back-to-back baskets from Patton and Anderson Mirambeaux put the lead back in Cleveland State's favor at 49-47 with 9:42 left in regulation.
Although the Raiders would swing the momentum back into their favor once again, the Vikings responded with a 7-0 run that was kickstarted with a Deante Johnson and-one play, putting the score at 55-50 CSU with 7:05 left on the clock.
The Vikings were then able to maintain their lead over their next few possessions, as another 6-0 run put CSU up 61-52 following a D'Moi Hodge steal on a Wright State inbounds play that led to a Tre Gomillion layup giving the Vikings a nine-point advantage.
This lead wouldn't last long though, as the Raiders answered with a 7-0 run of their own, to close the gap to just two points at 61-59 with 3:21 left on the clock.
A Patton layup on the ensuing CSU possession stopped the Raider run, and put the Vikings back up by four points at the 63-59 mark, but the Raiders once again worked their way back into the contest, notching back-to-back baskets to tie the contest at 63-63 with just 2:11 left on the clock.
Cleveland State was able to break the tie on its following possession then, as a crucial Johnson offensive board led to a Patton and-one play that gave the Vikings a 66-63 lead – a lead that they would go on to hold over the final minutes of the contest.
A Hodge steal and layup on the next trip down the floor extended Cleveland State's lead to 68-63, while the Vikings then went on to control play over the final stretch, coming away with the 71-67 victory.
