Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Picks Up 75-61 Victory Over Edinboro

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2021-22 season Tuesday evening, earning a 75-61 victory over Edinboro.

Game Stats
· Four Vikings finished the game in double-figures, led by D'Moi Hodge and Yahel Hill with 13 points each. Torrey Patton and Broc Finstuen both added 11 points.
· Deante Johnson and Torrey Patton led the Vikings with seven rebounds each, while Broc Finstuen tallied six.
· As a team, the Vikings recorded 17 assists, including five from Broc Finstuen.
· The Vikings notched 10 steals – with four from Torrey Patton – and forced Edinboro into 14 turnovers.
· Cleveland State shot 45-percent from the floor on the game.

Game Notes
· Deshon Parker appeared in the starting lineup for the first time in his Cleveland State career Tuesday.
· Tuesday's game was the second game of a seven-game homestand for Cleveland State.
· Tuesday's win marked the second straight win against Edinboro.

The Game
After battling throughout the first part of the game, the Vikings were able to gain their first lead of the contest at the 5:25 mark of the first half, when a Yahel Hill three-pointer gave Cleveland State a 23-22 lead. The Vikings quickly extended their advantage on the next trip down the floor, as a Hill steal led to another Hill three-pointer that put the score at 26-22 Vikings.

Cleveland State then gained a 28-22 lead on the ensuing play, as Broc Finstuen was able to convert a steal on the Edinboro inbounds into a layup at the 4:50 mark.  

The Vikings then closed out the half with an 11-5 run, taking a 39-27 lead into the halftime break.

Cleveland State was able to extend its lead over the opening minutes of the second half then, including a Torrey Patton three-pointer at the 17:31 mark that put the score at 49-32 CSU.

Although Edinboro was able to cut the lead to single-digits over the next few minutes, a D'Moi Hodge three-pointer at the 12:11 mark gave the Vikings a double-digit lead once again at 55-43. The Fighting Scots responded with a three-pointer of their own, but another Hodge three-pointer followed by a Patton layup put the Vikings up 60-46 with just under 11 minutes left on the clock.  

The two teams traded baskets over the next few plays then, until back-to-back dunks from Deante Johnson and Tre Gomillion gave the Vikings a 70-53 advantage – a lead that Cleveland State would go on to hold for the remainder of the contest – as the Vikings picked up the 75-61 victory.
