SETTING THE SCENE
The Cleveland State men's basketball team will continue the 2021-22 season on Tuesday, November 16, hosting Edinboro at 7:00 p.m. Entering Tuesday's contest, the Vikings stand at 0-2 on the season, and will be looking for their first win of the 2021-22 campaign.

A WIN ON TUESDAY WOULD…
Give the Vikings their first win of the 2021-22 campaign…Mark the second straight win against the Fighting Scots…Improve Cleveland State to 31-31 during Dennis Gates' tenure.

THE CLEVELAND STATE/EDINBORO SERIES
Tuesday's game will mark the 15th meeting between the two teams, with Edinboro owning an 8-6 edge in the all-time series. Cleveland State picked up a 79-54 win the last time the two teams met, marking the first win as a head coach for Dennis Gates. Prior to the 2019-20 season, the last time the two teams met was during the 1967-78 campaign. 

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING SCOTS
Edinboro enters Tuesday's contest standing at 1-1 on the young season after splitting its first weekend of play against Fairmont State (L, 55-89) and Bluefield State (W, 104-113 (OT))…Last time out, Edinboro had six players finish with double-digit points, including Deonte Robertson with 30 and Jaryn Simpson with 24…Earlier this season Edinboro was selected to finish eighth in the PSAC West Preseason Poll…Last year, senior Jaryn Simpson was named to the PSAC West Second Team…The Fighting Scots will be under the direction of eighth-year head coach Pat Cleary.

LAST TIME OUT…
Cleveland State opened its 2021-22 home slate against Ohio, dropping a 67-56 contest to the Bobcats. Broc Finstuen led the Viking offense with 14 points, while Yahel Hill added 11 points. Eleven of the 12 Vikings to see the court recorded at least one rebound on the game, including a team-high five from Finstuen. Cleveland State outscored Ohio 24-0 in fast break points, while the Vikings turned 12 Ohio turnovers into 20 points.

HOME-SWEET-HOME
Tuesday's game against Edinboro will be the second game of a current seven-game homestand for the Vikings, and the second of 16 total home games for Cleveland State this season. Under head coach Dennis Gates, the Vikings are 15-11 when playing at home, including a 9-2 record last season.

FINSTUEN NOTCHES BACK-TO-BACK DOUBLE-DIGIT GAMES
Playing in his first week as a Viking, Broc Finstuen notched back-to-back double-digit games, entering the week leading the team averaging 12.5 points per game. Finstuen notched 11 points at BYU and followed that up with 14 points against Ohio, going 11-for-15 from the field to rank third among Horizon League players with a .733 field goal percentage. Finstuen also collected six steals on the week, which ranks him fifth among #HLMBB players.

HILL HAS CAREER OUTING AGAINST OHIO
Last time out, Yahel Hill had a career outing against Ohio, finishing with 11 points on a 4-for-5 effort from the floor - including a 3-for-4 performance from three-point. Hill, who was one of two Vikings to record double-digit points against Ohio, marked a career-high with his 11 points, while he also grabbed a career-best four rebounds playing in a career-high 20 minutes of action.

VIKINGS FORCING THE TURNOVER
Entering the week, Cleveland State ranks third among Horizon League teams with a 4.00 turnover margin after forcing BYU and Ohio into 26 combined turnovers. Last time out, the Vikings forced Ohio into 12 turnovers, and turned these miscues into 20 points. As a team, Cleveland State has combined for 14 steals so far this season, led by Broc Finstuen with six.

THE VIKINGS
Cleveland State returns 14 letterwinners from last season's #HLMBB Championship squad, including the starting rotation of Craig Beaudion, Tre Gomillion, D'Moi Hodge, Deante Johnson, and Torrey Patton. This returning core will be joined by four transfers and one freshman for the upcoming season, giving head coach Dennis Gates a well-rounded roster for the 2021-22 campaign.

…HEAD COACH DENNIS GATES
The Vikings will be under the direction of third-year head coach and reigning back-to-back #HLMBB Coach of the Year Dennis Gates. Through his first two seasons, Gates has led the Vikings to a 30-31 overall reecord, including a 19-8 mark last season when the Vikings captured the Horizon League Tournament title and earned the program's third trip to the NCAA Tournament.

CLEVELAND STATE TABBED #HLMBB PRESEASON FAVORITES
Last month the Vikings were selected as the favorites in the Horizon League Preseason Poll - picking up 502 points along with 30 first place votes. Last season, the Vikings finished regular season play with a 16-4 record to clinch the top seed in the #HLMBB Tournament where they picked up a trio of wins against Purdue Fort Wayne, Milwaukee and Oakland to claim the 2020-21 Horizon League Championship. In addition to the Vikings, Wright State (9), Northern Kentucky (1), Milwaukee (2), and Detroit Mercy (2) also picked up first place votes in this year's poll.

PATTON NAMED #HLMBB PRESEASON FIRST TEAM
Senior Torrey Patton earned a spot on the #HLMBB Preseason All-League First Team, which was announced in conjunction with the preseason poll last month. Patton returns after a 2020-21 season in which he averaged 14.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, and earned All-League First Team accolades.

Cleveland State will take part in the Cerebro Sports Lake Erie Challenge this weekend, hosting Canisius on Saturday, November 20 and Coppin State on Monday, November 22.
