INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Cleveland State freshman guard, Hugo Ferreira, has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday, Feb. 24. He is the first Viking to receive the league's weekly award this season.

In two games this past week, Ferreira averaged 9.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in 24.5 minutes of action. Against league-leading Wright State on Saturday, Feb. 22, the 6-1 guard poured in a career-high 14 points on 6-10 (.600) shooting from the floor, including a 2-4 (.500) clip from three-point territory, to go along with three assists, three steals and two rebounds in 31 minutes of play.

Saturday's contest marked the fifth time this season Ferreira has poured in 10-or-more points and the third time he's recorded three-or-more thefts in a single game.

Ferreira has appeared in 23 games (nine starts) this season for Cleveland State, averaging 5.2 points, 1.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals in 17.4 minutes of action.

The Vikings will finish their 2019-20 regular season on the road this week, taking on Milwaukee (Feb. 27) and Green Bay (Feb. 29). Tipoff for both contests are set for 8 p.m.
