Vikings Fall on Senior Day in Overtime Thriller

CLEVELAND, OhioTorrey Patton notched his first career double-double, but it wouldn't be enough as the Cleveland State Vikings fell to Wright State, 81-74, in an overtime thriller on Saturday (Feb. 22)

GAME RECAP:

Prior to the start of tonight's game, seven seniors were recognized as part of Cleveland State's Senior Day: four student-athletes (Jalen Williams, Jaalam Hill, Kasheem Thomas and Algevon Eichelberger) and three student-managers (Nick Love, Dominic Trivisonno and Nick Korta).

The first few minutes of tonight's Horizon League contest was back-and-forth. After being tied 18-18 with 9:12 left to play in the opening half, the Raiders would go on a 9-0 run, taking a 27-18 lead.

The Vikings eventually cut into Wright State's lead, getting within two points of the Raiders, 32-30, off of an Al Eichelberger jump shot.

After the opening 20 minutes of play, the Vikings would find themselves in a six-point hole, 36-30.

Wright State opened up a double-digit, 53-43, lead midway through the second half. The Vikings never wavered, clawing their way back throughout the half. With 3:01 left to play in regulation, Cleveland State was in a five-point deficit, 66-61.

Hugo Ferreira brought the Vikings to within three points of the Raiders with 1:43 left on the clock, 66-63. With only 28 second left in the game, and down by three points, Cleveland State had possession of the ball. Al Eichelberger missed a three-point shot, but senior guard Kasheem Thomas grabbed the offensive rebound, allowing the Vikings to keep the ball. With four seconds left on the game clock, Torrey Patton knocked down the game-tying triple, sending tonight's home season finale into overtime. At the end of regulation, Cleveland State and Wright State were tied, 66-66.

Wright State jumped on the board first in the five-minute overtime period. The Raiders never trailed in overtime, walking away with an 81-74 victory.

The Vikings will finish their 2019-20 regular season on the road this upcoming week, taking on Milwaukee (Feb. 27) and Green Bay (Feb. 29). Tipoff for both contests are set for 8 p.m.
