Five Vikings Score in Double Figures, as Cleveland State Finishes Road Trip with Win

DETROIT, Michigan – Behind five players scoring in double digits, the Cleveland State Vikings ended their three-game road trip with an overtime victory at Detroit Mercy.

GAME RECAP:

Detroit Mercy scored the first field goal of the game, but its 2-1 lead at the 18:51 mark would be the last lead they saw until 1:17 remaining in regulation.

The Vikings notched their first double-digit advantage of the game with 6:57 left to play in the first half off of a Kasheem Thomas layup, 20-10. Freshman guard Jeremy Sanchez extended Cleveland State's lead heading into halftime off of an and-one.

At the intermission of tonight's tilt, Cleveland State held a 15-point, 35-20, advantage.

The Titans cut into the Vikings' lead early in the second half with a Willy Isiani triple, 37-28. Deante Johnson responded with a layup, bringing Cleveland State's lead back up to double digits, 39-28.

Detroit Mercy earned its first lead of the game, since the 18:51 mark of the first half, off of a Dwayne Rose Jr. triple with 1:35 left in regulation, 59-58. Al Eichelberger split a pair of free throws to tie the game 59-59 with 1:17 to play. The ball would be in Detroit Mercy's hands for the final shot of regulation, as Antoine Davis missed the game-winning jumper.

After 40 minutes of action, the Vikings and Titans were tied at 59.

Cleveland State never trailed in overtime, as Tre Gomillion put the Vikings on the board first with a layup at the 4:29 mark.

After two halves and an overtime period, the Vikings would leave Calihan Hall with a 67-66 victory.

Cleveland State will be back inside the friendly confines of the Wolstein Center this upcoming week. The Vikings will face off against Northern Kentucky (Feb. 20, 7 p.m.) and Wright State (Feb. 22, 3 p.m.).
