Game Notes

OPENING TIP:
• Cleveland State continues a season-long four-game homestand against IUPUI Thursday (Jan. 30) at 7 p.m. in the Wolstein Center
• The Vikings enter the contest with a 4-5 record in Horizon League play, while IUPUI is 2-7 in conference play
Algevon Eichelberger has 10 straight double-figure scoring games
• Four Vikings scored in double figures last time out
• IUPUI is coming off an 89-85 win in overtime at Oakland
• The Jaguars are the only team in the league to have two of the top-five scorers, with Marcus Burk (20.1) and Jaylen Minnett (16.3)
• Burk leads the league in HL play, averaging 22.3 points per game
• IUPUI's Elyjah Goss leads the league with 11.5 rebounds per game

WE'LL TAKE 'EM, THEY'RE FREE
• Cleveland State ranks among the top 15 in Division I in free throw attempts, having taken 495 this season
• Cleveland State has attempted double digit free throws in every game and has attempted 20+ freebies in 16 of 22 games
• CSU has attempted 23+ free throws in each of the past seven games
• The Vikings made a season-high 27 free throws, on 29 attempts, Jan. 23 vs. Green Bay, shooting 93.1 percent from the line

SWIPING STEALS
• Cleveland State leads the league lead in steals in Horizon League games, averaging 7.1 per outing
Craig Beaudion leads CSU, and is third in the HL, as he is netting 2.2 steals per HL contest
Torrey Patton, Tre Gomillion and Kasheem Thomas all have at least nine steals in league play as well

LEAGUE ROUNDUP:
• Cleveland State is currently tied for sixth place in the Horizon League standings with a 4-5 record
• A trio of teams, Green Bay, Milwaukee and Youngstown State, are tied for third place and sit just one game ahead of CSU at 5-4 in the league
• This weekend's games begin the second half of the Horizon League double round robin slate

MR CLUTCH:
• Sophomore Tre Gomillion has two game-winning baskets for the Vikings this season
• He tipped in a missed shot at the buzzer giving the Vikings an 82-80 victory over IUPUI Dec. 30
• Gomillion also tipped in a missed shot with 10 seconds to play lifting the Vikings to a 47-46 win against UNC Wilmington

CSU 70, MILWAUKEE 53 (1/25/20):
• Cleveland State cruised past Milwaukee, 70-53, topping a Panther squad that had won five of its last six coming in
• The Vikings never trailed in the game and led by as many as 25
• Cleveland State shot 51.1% for the game (23-of-45)
• The Vikings held the Panthers to 25.4% for the game (15-of-59)
Craig Beaudion had a game-high 19 points after 26 points last game
Tre Gomillion posted 14 points and six rebounds

ABOUT THE VIKINGS:
• Cleveland State enters the contest with an 8-14 overall record and a 4-5 record in the Horizon League
Algevon Eichelberger (14.0), Craig Beaudion (14.0) and Torrey Patton (12.8) are each averaging in double figures in Horizon League play
Algevon Eichelberger leads the Vikings, averaging 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game overall
Craig Beaudion is sixth in the Horizon League, averaging 4.7 assists per game in league play
Torrey Patton is second in the Horizon League, shooting 54.8 percent from the floor in league play
Craig Beaudion leads the league in minutes in league play, averaging 37.3 per HL game
• Cleveland State is first in the Horizon League in steals in league games, averaging 7.1 per outing

THE IUPUI SERIES:
• This will be the eighth all-time meeting between these teams
• IUPUI leads the all-time series, 4-3
• CSU tallied an 82-80 win at IUPUI in late December
• Cleveland State leads the series in Cleveland, 2-1

THE DENNIS GATES ERA:
• This will mark the first season for new Cleveland State head coach Dennis Gates
• Gates earned his first career victory at Cleveland State on Nov. 9 with a 79-54 victory over Edinboro in the Wolstein Center
• Gates was named the Vikings head coach on July 26, 2019
• He comes to Cleveland State after spending the previous eight seasons as an assistant coach at Florida State
• Gates brings 16 years of Division I coaching experience to Cleveland State
• Gates also coached at Marquette, Cal, Northern Illinois and Nevada

FRESH FACES:
• Cleveland State will feature 11 new players in 2019-20, which ties for the fifth most in Division I
Tyrese Potoma, Craig Beaudion, Franklyn Penn Jr., Tre Gomillion, Hugo Ferreira, Anthony Rego, Daylen Williams, Aria Eskandari, Jeremy Sanchez, Torrey Patton and Jalen Williams are all new to CSU this season

FROM EVERYWHERE:
• Cleveland State is represented by players from four countries and eight different US states
Tyrese Potoma (Saskatchewan), Kasheem Thomas (Quebec), Franklyn Penn Jr (British Virgin Islands) and Hugo Ferreira (Portugal) all hail from foreign countries

WHEN WE WIN:
• The Vikings have featured balanced scoring in their eight victories this season as four players are averaging in double figures
Algevon Eichelberger (14.6), Craig Beaudion (13.0), Tre Gomillion (11.0) and Torrey Patton (11.0) each average double figures in CSU wins
• Cleveland State has limited the opposition to just 34.2 percent shooting from the floor in its victories
• The Vikings are outrebounding opponents by an average of 36.6-32.8 in their eight wins

KEEP YOUR EYE ON HIM:
• Junior Algevon Eichelberger has had a breakout season for the Vikings in 2019-20
• He has started all 19 games in which he has played this season and leads the team averaging 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game
• He leads the team with 15 double-figure scoring games and posted his first four career double-doubles this year

WE SHOULD PATTON THAT:
Torrey Patton has raised his output in Horizon League play
• He is averaging 12.8 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game in league play
• Patton is shooting 54.8 percent (46-of-84) from the floor, second in the league, and 53.3 (8-of-15) percent from the three-point line
•  He scored a career-high 25 points in the Vikings victory over Youngstown State
• That effort against YSU is one of three 20-point games he has in league play
• Patton has double figures in scoring in six of nine HL games
