Game Notes

OPENING TIP:
• Cleveland State opens a season-long four-game homestand against Green Bay on Thursday (Jan. 23) at 7 p.m. in the Wolstein Center
• The Vikings enter the contest with a 3-4 record in Horizon League play, while Green Bay is 4-3 in conference play
Algevon Eichelberger has eight straight double-figure scoring games
Torrey Patton has three 20-point games in league play
• Green Bay will be playing its first road games of the decade as the Phoenix recently concluded a five-game homestand
• The Phoenix went 3-2 on the homestand, winning each of the final two games against Oakland and Detroit Mercy
• Green Bay leads the league in a variety of offensive categories, including scoring offense, field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, assist-to-turnover ratio and assists per game

WE'LL TAKE 'EM, THEY'RE FREE
• Cleveland State ranks among the top 20 in Division I in free throw attempts, having taken 438 this season
• Cleveland State has attempted double digit free throws in every game and has attempted 20+ freebies in 14 of 20 games
• CSU has attempted at least 23 free throws in each of the past five games

SWIPING STEALS
• Cleveland State leads the Horizon League in steals in league games, averaging 7.3 per outing
Craig Beaudion leads CSU, and is second in the HL, as he is netting 2.1 steals per HL contest
Torrey Patton, Tre Gomillion and Kasheem Thomas all have at least seven steals in league play as well

LEAGUE ROUNDUP:
• Cleveland State is currently tied for sixth place in the Horizon League standings with a 3-4 record
• A trio of teams, including Green Bay, are tied for third and just one game ahead of CSU at 4-3
• The first half of league play will conclude at the end of this weekend with all teams halfway through their 18-game league slate

NORTHERN KENTUCKY 75, CSU 49 (1/18/20):
• Cleveland State dropped its final road game of the month
Algevon Eichelberger led the Vikings with 17 points on the night
Jaalam Hill finished in double figures, posting 11 points against the Norse for his first double-digit scoring game since December
Torrey Patton grabbed a team-high nine rebounds on the game

WRIGHT STATE 75, CSU 62 (1/16/20):
• Cleveland State fell on the road to first-place Wright State
Algevon Eichelberger posted 13 points and a game-high tying 10 boards
Torrey Patton had a game-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting
• Cleveland State had 15 turnovers compared to 14 for the Raiders

ABOUT THE VIKINGS:
• Cleveland State enters the contest with a 7-13 overall record and a 3-4 record in the Horizon League
• Cleveland State has only committed a combined 61 turnovers in the last five games
Algevon Eichelberger (15.0), Torrey Patton (14.3) and Craig Beaudion (11.6) are each averaging in double figures in scoring in Horizon League play

THE DENNIS GATES ERA:
• This will mark the first season for new Cleveland State head coach Dennis Gates
• Gates earned his first career victory at Cleveland State on Nov. 9 with a 79-54 victory over Edinboro in the Wolstein Center
• Gates was named the Vikings head coach on July 26, 2019
• He comes to Cleveland State after spending the previous eight seasons as an assistant coach at Florida State
• Gates brings 16 years of Division I coaching experience to Cleveland State
• Gates also coached at Marquette, Cal, Northern Illinois and Nevada

FRESH FACES:
• Cleveland State will feature 11 new players in 2019-20, which ties for the fifth most in Division I
Tyrese Potoma, Craig Beaudion, Franklyn Penn Jr., Tre Gomillion, Hugo Ferreira, Anthony Rego, Daylen Williams, Aria Eskandari, Jeremy Sanchez, Torrey Patton and Jalen Williams are all new to the Vikings this season

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Algevon Eichelberger notched his first career double-double against UNC Wilmington as he had 19 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds
• Eichelberger added his second career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds against Toledo
• His third double-double of the season came against East Tennessee State when he scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds
• His fourth double-double, and first in HL play, came at Wright State when he tallied 13 points and 10 boards

KEEP YOUR EYE ON HIM:
• Junior Algevon Eichelberger has had a breakout season for the Vikings in 2019-20
• He has started all 17 games in which he has played this season and leads the team averaging 13.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game
• He leads the team with 13 double-figure scoring games and posted his first four career double-doubles this year

WE SHOULD PATTON THAT:
Torrey Patton has raised his output in Horizon League play
• He is averaging 14.3 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game in league play
• Patton is shooting 56.2 (41-of-73) percent from the floor and 61.5 (8-of-13) percent from the three-point line
•  He scored a career-high 25 points in the Vikings victory over Youngstown State
• That effort against YSU is one of three 20-point games he has in league play
