Kenny Carpenter Signs With CSU Basketball

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Kenny Carpenter (Detroit, Mich.), who was a three-year varsity starter at Cass Tech H.S., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Cleveland State and play basketball beginning in the fall of 2014.

Carpenter will have four years of eligibility.

"I feel that Kenny has the potential to be an outstanding player in our program," head coach Gary Waters said. "His skill level will continue to enhance, making him a dominant guard in the Horizon League in the future."

The 6-foot-5 point guard averaged 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists as a senior, helping Cass Tech win the district title. He earned second team Class A All-State honors and was an All-Metro Detroit first team selection after leading the team to an 18-7 record and a No. 6 ranking in the state.

Carpenter is regarded as a superior defender and is able to create for himself and teammates on the offensive end with his length, quickness and athleticism.

Carpenter is the third committment for CSU this year, joining guard Terrell Hales (Detroit, Mich./Douglas) and forward Jonothan Janssen (Queensland, Australia/Mt. Zion Prep) who signed with CSU in the early signing period in November.
