Cleveland, Ohio - Five Cleveland State fencers will compete at the Midwest Fencing Regional this Saturday (March 13) and Sunday (March 14) in Evanston, Ill. after qualifying for the event this season.

"It's great that we were able to have five fencers qualify for the regional tournament this year," head coach Andy Tulleners said. "I'm proud of what the team has accomplished so far this season and look forward to how they will finish at the regional tournament this season."

Brooke Snyder is the lone fencer on the women's team to qualify, posting a season record of 23-27.

Liran Gross leads the men's team, qualifying with a record of 25-17 this season, while John Marshall qualified with a record of 24-13. Stephen Montgomery (12-30) and Patrick Weber (15-25) round out the men that will represent CSU at the Midwest Regional.

Both the men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Midwest Fencing Championship last weekend (March 6-7) at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. with the men taking home a ninth place team finish with 350 points.

The men's team recorded 5-3 victories over Indiana, Wayne State and Wisconsin in the epee bracket, finishing the round with 175 points. In foil, the CSU men picked up a victory over Illinois, earning 145 points and finished the sabre bracket with 30 points after falling to Bowling Green in the play-in round.
